They end up paying unnecessary fees to cash paychecks or pay bills because they do not have access to obtaining a bank account. This article examples First Citizens National Bank’s efforts to combat financial exclusion and teach its communities about finances and offer financial services. This truly struck a chord and inspired me to help my small community of Oroville, and also spread this program and knowledge to other small, rural communities

The United States ranks 14th in the world in financial literacy

The United States has one of the best educational systems in the world, yet it ranks at a mere 14th place in financial literacy compared to the rest of the world. This lack of financial education can lead to a lot of problems, including the 4th highest debt per capita in the world. Only 25 states currently require a financial literacy class to graduate from high school.
